Candy Art

by aubrey on November 4, 2009

I hope you all had a fun Halloween!  My daughter is three and a half so this was her fourth official Halloween, but the second one she really understood.  Our church had a party where we did some trunk-or-treating, but it was early enough in the evening to allow people a chance to go trick-or-treating and also be home for the trick-or-treaters to come.  I was pleasantly surprised that my three year old enjoyed handing out candy to the trick-or-treaters rather than wanting to go get more candy.  We went around to our immediate neighbors and she was satisfied.  **I know those of you with older kids are thinking that won’t last to long!** So, we enjoyed it!

Anyway, with all of the extra candy and treats around the house for your kids or you (if you are like me) to eat, I found a way to use up some of it from No Time For Flash Cards.  I choose to do my daughters name, but you can do anything…get creative!

Supplies:

  • paper
  • candy
  • glue

**Before beginning the craft with my daughter I cut out the letters of her name and glued them onto a bigger paper to allow her more room to work.

1.  Open candy.

2.  Put glue on the letters.  I’ve been working with my daughter on tracing her name so I was excited to see that as she was putting the glue on the letters she was doing as if she were tracing…so this could be good practice for your kids as well.

3.  Put candy on the glue.

4.  Let it dry.

This craft is simple, but it gives your young ones a chance to be creative and allows you to save on few extra calories.  I love simple crafts!  I’m getting in the mood for Thanksgiving and I hope you are too.  If you’ve got a fun craft idea for Thanksgiving drop us a line and you may be the star of one of our next posts on Crafty Kids Corner.

This is perfect! My son doesn’t like 90% of candy, so you are right I am the one who ends up eating it…and I don’t need it, way cute Aubrey! I especially liked that you incorporated her name.

Great idea! Gingerbread house season will be upon us soon, so saving some for those candies for rooftops or lollipop lanes wouldn’t be a bad idea either!

Great idea for my two year old. Thanks! For other things to use candy for, I found a fun website at candyexperiments.com. You can use the candy for simple science experiments. My boys and I were going to do some tomorrow since we are all home sick with the flu. It’s probably not considered a craft but still a great way to use leftover Halloween candy.

What a great way to get rid of some of that candy (or use up that unsanitary loose candy). I’ll def. get my Gracie to try this and send you a pix. Thanks! Kendal

Love this idea. We will have to do it tomorrow. Another fun idea to do with Halloween candy, is to sort it. My little boy loved this activity. We just went to the dentist today, and I decided that we need to eat less candy. So this will be a great way to get rid of some that we have around the house right now:)

Thanks

JK, it looks like a fun thing to do with the kiddos, and I definately don’t need to eat all the halloween candy we have lying around
