Diy Recipe Box Makeover

by Destri on March 1, 2010

This project was a big dose of satisfaction.  I love getting out some paint and a brush to transform something in a matter of an hour.  It has been forever since I have done it, and I fear I am going to have to do some shopping to find more instant gratification projects.

I found this little recipe box at Ross for $3.99, and though I don’t care for roosters I loved the lines of the box.  So a little white paint, spray adhesive, and scrap fabric later….

….and I have an heirloom to fill up with all sorts of old family recipes.  I just cut out the shape of the flowers from the scrap fabric and then sprayed with adhesive to apply it to the box.  I used the same fabric on top.  I still need to add a sealer, I am just trying to decided whether to use mod podge or a spray sealer.  Hmm.

They had quite a few of these and I know I have seen them at similar stores…so go snatch some up and see what you can do with them!

I have a few notes to add today before I let you go:

  • I will be over on A Few Of My Favorite Things all week sharing my favorites.  I had more fun with this than I probably should have but I don’t get to normally talk about just anything here on TMH!  I will fill you in everyday on what you can find over there.  Today I posted about my favorite thoughtful gift, it’s a good one!
  • Marta’s Blog & Business Workshop starts today and lasts all week.  She will be posting twice a day with different panels each talking on a different subject.  You will find a bit of my input on different panels so be sure to check it out if you are a blog or business owner.
  • Last we have a fun announcement for Sunday’s segment coming up….

I shared this on Today’s Creative Blog, if your looking to do some blog hoppin’ it’s a good place to start!

Brilliant! Now if only I had seen this post BEFORE I left Ross without a recipe box in my hand. Dang.

Cute, Cute, Cute! That box really does have great lines. The roosters would have matched my kitchen. :)

I like Mod Podge as a sealer, its easier to control and less messy than spray sealer.

Adorable–I just passed by a recipe box at the thrift store an hour ago–might have to go back after it!
