Bringing Fall Indoors

by Suzanne on October 17, 2009

I love Fall and all of it’s wonderful colors.  I try to bring them inside when I can to liven up things.  This little project is easy and fun and only takes a few minutes once you have the supplies, so try it yourself .  If you decide you like what you did share it on our Flickr group page and you may see it spotlighted here!

Supplies:

  • 3 tier plate stand with plates, or a any decorative dish
  • mini pumpkins, apples, berry pods, pine cones, leaves and cinnamon sticks
  • raffia or ribbon

Now for the fun part ,start to arrange the items on the plates.  I try not to be to perfect with the placement because you want to be random like the outdoors.

Destri saw this and decided it was the perfect thing to do with her plate stand as well, but thought that her real fruits and pumpkins lacked the “sparkle” mine did, so she shared the how to below.

Make them Sparkle!

You probably noticed the sparkle on Suzanne’s pumpkins.  Here is an easy way to add that effect to real fruits and pumpkins.   It is super easy, definitely 30 minutes or less.  It would be a fun project to do with the kids too.

I bought course craft glitter and high gloss Mod-Podge for mine but, really you could use elmer’s glue and sugar, use what you’ve have!

Using a brush, paint on a thin layer of Mod-Podge where you would like the “sparkle”.  Working quickly, take your glitter and either roll the item in it or sprinkle it on-depending how thick you want the glitter.  Keep in mind you can always dust some off once it is dry.  Place on a paper towel and let dry, viola’! instant sparkle!  I wish you could see them in person, the pictures really don’t do them justice, they turned out great.  Thanks for the inspiration Suzanne, and letting me share!

They would  look completely dreamy on a Thanksgiving table with candle light.  If you make your own cranberry garland for Christmas decorations, it would look delish, though  I would use a finer craft glitter than used on this project. Really the possibility’s with this technique are endless, if you would like to share how you used it for your project upload it to our Flickr group, I would love to see what you’ve done.

I am also taking submissions for future segments, so if you have a great diy project or craft you are dying to share please do!  Right here.

I am soooo excited about the giveaway sponsor for “Make it Monday”!!!  Roberts Arts & Crafts carries everything you need for scrapbooking, sewingcrafting, knitting- you get the idea, and the best part, they can deliver it to your door.  Or you could stop in and see them, they have great classes for adults and kids.

I bet if you used a water/sugar glue and then sugared the fruit, your kiddos could eat them a little down the road so they wouldnt be wasted. Just a thought. Love the idea.

Thanks for not only sticking with “less expensive” ideas throughout your website. Sometimes we want to do something with flair and you have created different ideas on each profile with a balance of both “easy, cheap & fun” with “classy, style & fun!” Thanks!

I pulled out my fall decorations this year and realized I really hardly had any! So anything I can make, that is cheap and easy, to add to my holiday decorations would be awesome! So I guess it would be awesome if I won that gift card too!!
