Giving Thanks Jar

Give thanks jar

While checking out homemaking fun, which has a ton of great ideas for parties, crafts and overall DIY , I was inspired for Make it Monday.  We all have jars or some kind of a container lying around the house so why not turn it into a fun family tradition for Thanksgiving.  This jar is going to be set on my kitchen bar/table for all of our family to write what they are thankful for during the month of November.  After thanksgiving dinner when we are all contemplating that second helping of pie, we can read the slips of paper and find out what some of our family members are thankful for.

I had fun creating this jar from stuff I just had in my craft closet.  I love rustic homemade looking things so burlap was perfect.  Green is one of my favorite colors, my fall green ribbon did the trick to hold my hand stamped message of “T is for Thanks” from stampin up.

The supplies I used for my jar were:

  • quart size canning jar
  • a square of burlap fabric to cover jar
  • rubber band to hold the burlap on
  • ribbon (from Michael’s)
  • scrapbook paper
  • double sided tape
  • scissors
  • stamp & ink

Now go make a jar, start a knew tradition in your family!  Be sure to take some pictures and upload them to our flickr group, I would love to see what you’ve come up with!

I love this! What a neat way to teach children about the meaning of giving thanks, especially since they are such visual and ‘hands on’ learners. Thanks for sharing:)

Love this idea, I was going to make a little thankful tree, but this is so much more simple. I LOVE TO SIMPLIFY. Thanks for the idea.

Lovely idea, and who needs to be American (or Canadian – hubby’s a Canuck) to have such a memorable, simple reminder that there are many things in life that we should and are thankful for. marevellous! keep ‘em comin’.
