Halloween Ornaments

What’s a Halloween Ornament you may ask?  Well, it’s the new craze at my house.  :-)   A little bit of yarn, glue, food coloring and you are set.  It’s so simple and so easy!  The only hard thing about it is patience…these things take a while to dry after they are made.

Mix a little bit of water with some glue to make it a little runny.  Decide on the yarn and the shape that you want to make.  Cut the yarn to the exact size.  Dip the yarn in the glue and completely submerge it.  Then take the yarn out and squeeze your fingers along it to get the excess glue off.  Form your shape on wax paper and play the waiting game.  For the spider, I created my own.  For the pumpkin, I used a cookie cutter to shape it.

After it is completely dry, peel it off the wax paper.  Using a fresh sheet of wax paper, put the ornament down flat.  Before you fill the middle with glue, stick a string through the top so you will be able to hang it.  Fill the middle with glue and then with a toothpick stir food coloring into it until you have the color you want.  Then, wait again…I used a fan to help speed the process along.  :-)

These cute little ornaments could be hung in the window to create a little sun catcher effect, on the mantle, or of course, on the fridge.

Aubrey – cute idea! Lawsen and I may have to make these tomorrow. One of the best things is that we have all those supplies. Those will look fun hanging in the window. As always, thanks!

Ok, my wheels are turning. Could you add some buttons or pieces of paper on the glue before it dries? I was thinking of making a jack-o-lantern with a face and possibly a ghost with eyes. Just a thought… :)
