Lights and charms

One of the many things I love about living here in the US is the way seasonal celebrations are, well, celebrated. I’m not saying that we Brits don’t know how to party, but there is a great sense of togetherness here. When I (we as a family) first moved to the States I just couldn’t get over festive door mats, cushions, table cloths, wreaths and such like that adorn many a house. I’d never have thought about changing my tea/coffee mugs in the cupboard just because the season has changed, let alone bringing out a whole season dinner ware service! But you guys do it all so very well. I can’t say I know why this isn’t so popular back in ‘Ole Blighty. May be we just don’t have room in our kitchen cupboards, and certainly there is a lacking of basements for all things not in use. Or may be it is because we don’t have Target! Either way there are some beautiful items out there to get your hands on.

Rags or riches, spend or save, here are a few things that if I were adorning my Thanksgiving table this year would feature.

Bottoms up!

Having lots of friends and family round? We have all been there, you put your glass down for a second to wipe toddlers nose, take said toddler to the potty, grab another handful of those oh so tasty nibbles and err, hum, where did I put my glass? And which one is it amongst all the others who have similarly done the same…. Worry no more. What you are in need of is a wine glass tag or charm.

I was instantly charmed by 12 year old Savannah’s hand made wine charms. Yes, I did say 12 years old and hand made! They are beautiful, elegant and will simply make a stunning addition to your party table. She guarantees each charm will arrive in perfect order and will replace it at no charge to you upon return of the damaged charm. As she states herself on her website (which she created with her gramma), no charms are alike so they make the perfect gift, they are unique. “I am proud that they are so beautiful and the best quality.  I think they are the finest and most beautiful charms in the world.” You know what, I agree. Take a look for yourself by checking out her charms here.

Candles

I love them, big, small, bees wax or scented (although I am very picky about those). They set the ambiance of a party, gathering or just a romantic moment in time. I’m particularly fond of the hurricane vases that you can set your candles. I am especially fond of this one from Crate and Barrel. It is simple and will compliment most Thanks Giving table. With all the complexities of food you don’t need extra fussiness with decorations. If you feel the urge for colour, why not surround the candle with coloured glass beads?

Candles alone, group together in all sizes but stick to one colour. Angelic white, autumnal colours or something more snazzey. They are great to stand in clusters as Crate and Barrel have done here.

I found these beautiful bees wax candles at Beeswax Co.  I love the simplicity of bees wax. Take a look for yourselves at their fabulous selection.

So however you will be celebrating Thanksgiving this year whether it be with close family, extended family and friends or the whole neighbourhood, have fun, relax and enjoy. Light a candle of thanks, tuck into your turkey, toast with your favourite tipple.

From me, thank you for just being out there.  I hope that your year ahead is one filled with love, peace, happiness and plenty of cuddles.

K…So love is not the accurate term for how I feel about the sweet little charms you found…..I must have some..must, must, must. And I think a few people on my Christmas list must have them as well. Thanks Kate you helped me scratch a few off my list!

I am obsessed with candles! When I’m home, I’ve most likely got candles lit. Whether it’s a relaxed evening with the hubs, kicking back on the sofa with a good read, or enjoying the company of others for dinner, the soft glow of candlelight is always a must for this girl.

I’m a big fan of the bees wax candles you’ve highlighted today. Love them!
