Edit! You can find the completed design here!
Hey friends! Have you heard the buzz going around about the Michaels Holiday Dream Tree Challenge? It’s a fun one. They supply one tree, a generous gift card, and one week to create the tree of your dreams, and this lucky girl was asked to be a part of it :). I don’t know who was more excited when the tree showed up, me or the kids – it was like, well…Christmas!

I had a couple of days to think on a theme and decided on “Winter Wonderland”. So with my favorite design consultant in tow I was off to Michaels for a little scouting and shopping.

I’ll be honest, when I first walked into the Christmas section I was like aw crap, how am I ever going to be able to decide?! You guys, rows…

and rows of beautiful ornaments and garlands. It’s a little overwhelming at first, until you realize Michaels has designed everything in a way that it goes together – making your (my) job easy. Usually I end up walking around a store finding a bunch of things I love with no idea of how to put it all together, so I loved this! They even have diy projects to go with each theme – which I thought was cool. Here are four of their themes complete with a lookbook for inspiration:
Jingle & Jolly Collection – so so fun
Cedar Lodge Collection – if only I had a cabin
Frankincense Collection – love love this!
Crystal Elegance Collection – you have to see this in person, beautiful. There’s a mirror that goes along with it I think I might have to get.

After a few minutes of “oh sheesh, which way to go?” I remembered my original plan of “Winter Wonderland” and within an hour had everything I needed to pull it off. I’m telling you, totally meant to be! They even had the lamp post I envisioned in my daydreams (is it just me, or does every wonderful winter scene have a lamp post in it?). Michaels had two different ornament collections I could have used but Eleni and I decided those candy ornaments were to fun to pass up.
Michaels also stocks a great assortment of artificial pre-lit high tip count trees (best thing since sliced bread), and I picked up two more for my design – have I got you curious yet?

Then we came across the deer…”MOM!!! It’s Rubolf!” and after 10 minutes of deliberation it was clear she was going to have a broken heart if we left without him. So he’s in the design too.
So have I peaked your curiosity yet? Classic red, green, and white color scheme, three trees, and a reindeer. Oh, and it’s 60 degrees here in Texas, but in my house they’re calling for snow :). Do you follow me, or do you think I’ve lost it?
I can’t wait to show you! I almost have it all wrapped up, with just one diy post to share tomorrow and then next week the big reveal!
In the meantime you can follow along with the fun on Michaels social pages – Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.
Now I am off to fluff some “snow”. Wish me luck!

just head north my dear……we have snow (albeit disappearing) but winter wonderland exists beautifully…….can’t wait to see the finished product. With your design team coming from good stock, I don’t doubt it will be anything other than spectacular!

I was just telling Aaron we NEED to make it up there! We were going to go to Utah after Christmas but the plane tickets are outrageous – I have a feeling we could get to your house cheaper.
And thank you, I think I’m just about done – I just wish I had a big snowy backdrop out my window :)
Plane tickets in North America are unbelievable…..I hate it that they have us where they want us with regards to pricing…..I love the fact that across Europe you can get lots of good prices for flights…
Winterwonderland is looking pretty…..snow almost gone here but ski resorts are open!!! wooooohoooooo! somehow, somehow, we all have to get together again….miss you!!

Can’t wait to see it!
Sounds amazing!! I am so excited to see what you’ve come up with! :) xoxo
