My new best friend!

by Kate on November 29, 2009

So it’s official, the festive season has begun.

Now I was not brave enough to go anywhere near stores on Black Friday, but I know there are a fair few who have nerves of steal and skin tougher than a crocodile.  If the ending result is a basement  packed high and low of bargains for early Christmas shopping, then bloomin’ well done to you.  Hats off.  But if Black Friday gave you a few black rings, or if you are like me, those darkening circles have more to do with the endless energy that the little people in your life have (and you don’t!) then you need this…..

Benefit’s Erase Paste….. it is my new best friend.

I should fill you in on how I emptied my purse (wallet) on the counter of my local Ulta store one day last week.  I have this rather beautiful, elegant and rather talented sister-in-law.  She is a music director in Toronto but has also been known to don a costume or two – as some of Disney’s most beautiful princesses…. see where I am going here. She has the complexion of an ‘English Rose’… always looks amazing, and when I looked in the mirror the other morning and, err, didn’t quite recognize the rather unflattering face staring back at me, I had to know her secret….and here I am sharing it with you. It comes  in 3 shades, light, medium and dark. You pay out $26 for a tiny pot, and you get a tiny spatula too! The good news, I reckon even using daily I will still have loads left this time next year.  A top tip that the experts give on the tiny leaflet is to run your fingers under warm water before applying to make application smoother and easier. I have been suitably impressed with the outcome.

Another great addition to your make up bag this holiday season is boi-ing.  A concealer to beat all concealers.  “This industrial-strength concealer camouflages dark circles, shadows and discoloration for a seamless, natural-looking finish without creasing or fading.  You name it, boi-ing helps hide it!”  Well that’s what they say, and my sister-in-law agrees along with various make-up artists she has worked with.  It will set you back $18 but again looks like it will go on an age, and make you look age-less.  It comes in 3 colours and if in doubt, their experts recommend medium.

If you just can’t decide then why not try one of their top sellers. The Portable mini kit contains Benefit’s top selling concealers and enhancers. “It’s your solution for beauty dilemmas on-the-go.” This rather marvellous selection won the Cosmopolitan Beauty Award for “fabulous face kit” and was voted ‘favourite timesaver’ by Child magazine in 2006.” And  let’s face it we all need time savers right?! Even better it is only $32 and gives you the opportunity to try their best sellers before investing in the larger bottles. I’m game!

All this make up info and you must be thinking I am always out partying… never further from the truth. However I was struck by an article I read in a copy of Red magazine their October issue, ironically a birthday gift I gave my sister-in -law in Canada that I have found nigh on impossible to buy here, but thank goodness for the internet! It was a single page written by Fiona Gibson on how she rediscovered the power of the perfect lipstick for the school run stimulated by another mummy who was never without the perfect pout. She could be wearing old leggings or just her comfies, but always had the perfect pout. When Fiona asked her ‘Why?’ her reply was simple ‘I just do, it makes me feel…. You know’ and their is a truth that we all feel… our heady days of …well days before children or b.c, making ourselves feel good. For me, yes lipstick is a must, but my new found friend – Erase paste! Here’s to a crazy Holiday season and still looking Fab- U- Lous!

Check out Ulta or Sephora for more Benefit products.

xoxo

Ok, I have never heard of running your finger under warm water, what a great idea. And I have a sneaking suspicion your sister in-law finds you equally radiant!
Thanks Kate, I am always looking for things to make it look like I wasn’t up three hours before the sun was!

I could really use a “magic eraser,” for more then just the crayon on my walls. I really think Santa should leave me a little of that “magic” in my stocking this year. How great is it that sephora is now in JC Penny stores. I still remember the first time I ever saw one. Las Vegas ’01 —I had to physically remove my roomate from the premises.

I love both stores but feel completely overwhelmed when I step inside…. sooo many goodies, most of which I haven’t a clue what they are let alone what to do with them. I’ve been a fan on Benefit from a distance for a while and will certainly be happy to invest in more of their goodies in the future. Hope Santa puts a little magic in your stockings!!!

I’m lucky to be the mom of the beautiful Toronto gal and the happy mother-in-law of beautiful Kate. Hence I call upon both of them before I buy a beauty product & love the hints and presents they give me. TWO beauty consultations FREE :-)
