Organize Dog Food Stylishly

by Suzanne on August 9, 2010

When anyone in my house goes to feed our adorable little dogs and I mean little, the food is always in a new place since the cupboards get full and it gets moved… problem solved. Dog food in a candy jar! Let me explain, I am in love with old looking glass candy jars and I’ve had one for years and have put various things in it like; fruit, punch, fish(yep, the real ones), candy and now it is a healthy snack jar(granola bars).  So it seems the perfect solution for the dog food, but with some cute vinyl lettering.  Maybe now the kids  me won’t forget to feed them since it’s see through.

I know many of you have cricut cutters so the directions are pretty simple but if you don’t own one, get one! No really there are places online to buy the vinyl lettering.DOGSWITHFOOD

Supplies:

  • A Dog (bahh haaa)
  • Large glass candy jar- got mine at Wal-Mart
  • brown vinyl
  • transfer tape for vinyl
  • straight edge or ruler
  • cricut cutter

Directions:

  • Lay 12X12 piece of vinyl on the cricut cutting mat and press down to secure.
  • Using the calligraphy cartridge press shadow, then shift , type the letter “D” and set to 4 in. make sure your pressure is on max, speed on low and the blade is all the way down.
  • Press cut, after the first letter comes out good, change the inches to 3 and type the rest of the word.
  • Repeat for the second word.
  • Cut a piece of transfer tape the same length of your words.
  • Peel the sticky side away and set it sticky side up.
  • Arrange the letter backwards from left to right, vinyl side down on the transfer tape.
  • Peel the paper off the back of the vinyl.
  • Now stick the non-sticky side of the paper from the transfer tape back on and run your straight edge across to adhere to the sticky side of the transfer paper.
  • Clean jar with window cleaner and choose where you want the letters to go, I just eye ball it.
  • Now peel off the paper so you have the word facing the jar ready to stick in place.DOGJAR1
  • Place it, then go over the letter really good with your straight edge so it adheres to the glass.
  • Pull the sticky transfer paper back gently until it’s completely off and viola!DOGJAR2
  • Hope those directions were clearer than mud to you.DOGJAR3

Great idea. I actually use canning jars for homemade dog treats for my two dogs – but I don’t label them as nicely as you do! thanks.

I use my canning jars for tons of things too! Do share what your homemade dogs treats are that sounds interesting.
