When I learned this sewing tip, I think it changed my life forever. When I first began sewing, I would lose my thread every single time I pressed on the pedal – I spent more time re-threading my machine than I did sewing. Then a reader came to the rescue with a tip. When you stop sewing make sure the thread take-up lever is up. If it isn’t up when you stop, rotate the side wheel toward you until it is. You will never lose your thread when starting the next stitch!
If the thread take-up lever is down, it has to go up to create the first stitch and then it takes the thread with it. Makes sense, right? Life changing I tell ya.
Now go sew something – like this super cute Fall Swing Jacket :).
Here are all the Sew Be It Quick Tips for even less stress in the sewing room.

Thanks for this tip. I have been sewing for years and this one is a gem!
Thank you so much for this tip! I really and truly thought I had a defective machine! Then I bought another machine and had the same problem. I finally got a chance to use this tip and wow! it works! I too spent more time re-threading my machine and recently started chain stitching because of it; now I can go back to sewing without attaching all my pieces together.
