Yesterday, today, and a few days before that my sun has been missing. We’ve been covered with a thick coat of gray and getting some much needed rain – but man, I miss the sushine coming in my windows. I was asked to be a part of Micheals Craft It Forward Campaign as part of Random Acts Of Kindness Week, and I thought the best thing I could do is send a friend a little sunshine. Or at least remind her that it’s all inside :).
Micheals idea (which I love) is to take the week and make it not only a way to spread joy, but encourage us to use our creative talents to do it. I received an unexpected gift in the mail a few years ago, and to this day I remember how special it made me feel. I hardly ever receive mail like that, and the thought that someone took the time to fill a box with things they knew I would love along with a handmade gift is still something I think about.
So I have the perfect recipient in mind – she loves the sun more than anyone I’ve ever met and is currently living where there is little of it this time of year. I know she loves quotes, and this is one that I tell myself often. I am going to gather a few more things to send along with it (flip flops, lip gloss, lemon drops – all the things that remind me of the sun!), and I will share later this week along with the tutorial for how I made this artwork. Update – you can find the tutorial here.
For now, I hope you’ll think of ways that you can use your creative talents to join in the fun. Maybe you know someone that would be over the moon for a little unexpected package in the mail. If you need some ideas, Micheals has a Random Acts of Kindness Pinterest Board with links to other projects (one made me cry!) to get your wheels turning.
Be sure to share your Craft It Forward and your random acts of kindness on the Michaels Facebook page and to use the hashtag #RAOKDIY when sharing on Twitter and Instagram. I would love to see it too!
In celebration of the holiday on Sunday, Feb. 17, Michaels hopes to inspire customers to participate by giving away more than $100,000 in gift cards at its nearly 1,100 U.S. and Canada stores. Gift card recipients will be encouraged to “craft it forward” and exhibit their own random act of kindness towards another person. How fun is that?
Thanks to Micheals for sponsoring such a great event and asking us to be a part of it!
Stay tuned for the tutorial, and I have some gift cards of my own to giveaway!
