Re-purposed Cargo Pant= Cargo-licious

by Suzanne on April 19, 2010

I found the greatest tutorial byAnna from Noodlehead on how to make a handbag out of cargo pants.   I actually sewed again!  It’s not the best job, but hey I’m learning and if I can do it then anyone can.  The great thing about re-purposing is if you mess up that’s okay because you didn’t go out and buy the fabric it was something you were tired of and going to get rid of anyway.  This sewing thing could grow on me,  I think I might make a couple more of these in different colors.

My bag turned out a little different then the tutorial.   I used two cargo pant pockets for both sides of the bag and the handle I used the waist-band of the pants.  I also changed the sides to contrasting fabric.  Look at me changing things up when I don’t even know how to sew, pretty daring huh?

So…what have you been up too?  Any great repurposing tutorials you have tried?  Any that you have made yourself?  In honor of Earth Day I would love if you linked them up below and show me what you’ve got!

A few things:

  • Make sure it is a “green” project.  Anything with recycling, repurposing, remaking…you get the idea.
  • Link to the page of the project, not your home page.
  • Link back to this post pretty please, just tell everyone we have a bunch of crafty women over here linking up their green projects, that way it is fun for everyone.

That looks awesome Suzanne! It will be nice to have a sewing buddy around here!
Maybe even have someone to go to rehab for fabric addiction with me….

Thanks! I was a little proud of it as long as you don’t look to close to see all the mistakes. This morning I started working on the flops using the sewing machine again :) he he he!

What a great idea. Such a terrific idea to repurpose a pair of cargos into a purse. It looks like a fun purse to use :)

That is such a cute bag. I love that it has such a cool pocket and you don’t even have to sew it. I don’t love sewing pockets but I love having them in a purse. This is so cool. Now I just need to find a pair of cargo pants.

I know pockets on both sides even, go to a garage sale and get some for dollar or something.. Can’t believe I’m enjoying this sewing thing.
