Spring Cleaning Swap

Hey friends, how’s the Spring cleaning coming along?  You’re finished?  In the middle looking for motivation to keep going?  Or just tired of the subject and wished everyone would move on already?

Well, humor me for just a few minutes, because I’ve finished mine up and actually had fun.  I know you are thinking I’m crazy for putting the word “fun” with spring cleaning…but really – it can be possible.

I found the best way to not only do it, but finish it, and have fun in the process – all while keeping the kids happy.  Sound good to you?  Catch me after the jump and I’ll fill you in!

A couple weeks ago I started cleaning my windows….starting with the blinds, screens, and then the actual window.  I think it is one of the most dreaded jobs!  That’s why I haven’t done it since I moved into his house…almost three years ago.  (Oh man, did I just say that out loud?)  I’m embarrassed to admit it!

As I began this tedious process I kept thinking, this would be soooo much more fun and faster with someone helping me.  I decided to approach one of my friends about doing a cleaning swap.  I told her that if she would help me clean my windows I would do the same for her.

It worked great!  She came over with her kiddos and we went to town on the blinds while the kids played.  Luckily our kids play really well together, but even when they needed help one of us was able to keep cleaning while the other helped the kids.

Then a week later (so we could have a break) we went to her house and did the same thing.  The best part is that we couldn’t just leave the job half done.  With dates set and the commitment to help it held us both accountable.

So if you’re looking for the motivation to get started, or even just finish the job – call up a friend and ask her about doing a swap.  You’ll have fun being able to chat and you won’t feel bad about neglecting you’re kids all day because they’re having fun too.

So tell me, have you found any great ways to make spring cleaning “fun”?  The whole idea of it is pretty liberating, and I’d love to hear your tips!

Oh, and I forgot to say how much I LOVE my clean blinds, screens, and windows.  It’s amazing what a difference it makes!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and thanks for reading,

Aubrey

I’m cleaning one thing a day. Sometimes it’s a full room, sometimes it’s a closet, sometimes it’s a single drawer or a bookshelf, one day it’ll be all the light fixtures and ceiling fans. Yesterday it was doors. I went through the entire house and cleaned all of the doors and doorknobs (then my children came inside from playing in the sandbox and I re-did a few doors). Today it’s my sons’ closet. I am slowly but surely getting it ALL done, and knowing that I’ve done SOMETHING every day gives me a feeling of accomplishment. It may be taking me an eternity to do it, but I can see progress every day and I’m not having to give up hours upon hours to get it all done in a few spurts!

Karie, this is exactly how I have to do it. If I try to conquer it all at once I get too overwhelmed.
Thanks so much for sharing!
