String Painting Kids Craft – aka - A Keep The Kids Busy For 56 Minutes Craft. We all need them right? Those pull them out because you know it will give you that hour you need to get something done crafts. I needed one yesterday and this activity fit the bill, 56 minutes to be exact.
It’s amazing what one can accomplish in an hour! I was a rock star – 2 loads of laundry, bills, loaded dishwasher, and even curled my hair :). It’s the perfect craft for the great spring weather too, just set them up outside and you’re golden. I even have a mess free solution, catch me after the jump!
Painting With String

Supplies:
- washable paint
- paper plates
- paper
- yarn
You will want a separate plate for each color, and a piece of yarn for each color too.

Here’s the mess free tip: put a dollop of paint onto a paper plate, each color with it’s own plate. Then take a piece of yarn and use your fingers and work it into the paint to make sure it is saturated. I kept a paper towel to wipe my fingers. If you’re up for a mess let the kids do it ;).
Do this on all the colors and make sure to leave about 5 inches of clean yarn at the end. I told my kids to make sure they left that end out of the paint.

Then all they have to do is lift the string and paint with it. They can keep dipping it in the paint to reload.

Easy, right? I actually expected there to be more of a mess, but was surprised to find very little.

I love how you can see their personalities come out in their artwork. Of the ten paintings my kids made, I could tell you which one each kid made.
So there you have it, something to keep them busy so you can get something done!
