Berry Puff Pastry Bites

These little, puff pastry bites with berries on top, are deceptive. They look so innocent…….don’t be fooled. They’re definitely not innocent. They have highly addictive qualities and I have been suffering serious withdrawls since stuffing my face with them on New Years Eve.

My sister had been telling me about these delicious little treats her friend had made her family for a dinner party. In fact, she found a way to bring them up in every conversation I had with her, so I figured they must be pretty awesome. However, I was thinking maybe Merry was just really hungry the day she ate them and when she had them again she would realize they were just normal. :)

Well, I wasn’t starving the day I had them, and they really were FANTASTIC!!!!!!! The crunchiness of the puffed pastry with the smooth cream cheese filling and tart berries on top, forget about it. I couldn’t stop eating them. We actually sent her husband to the store to get two more packages of the puff pastry shells that night because we were plowing through them like no-body’s business. You have to try these. They would be an awesome dessert for Valentines day or a sweet appetizer if you are having a Valentines Party.

Sweet Berry Puff Pastry Bites

24- precooked puff pastry shells

1- 8 oz package cream cheese

1- cup sugar

Berries for garnish (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)

Place precooked shells in a 350° oven for 3-5 minutes. (This step is just to make them a little crisper, you can skip it if you want to, but I wouldn’t!)

Mix softened cream cheese with sugar until completely blended and smooth. Put filling in a Ziploc bag and snip the edge, or use a real pastry bag and tip if you’ve got them.

Fill each pastry cup with filling and top with berries of your choice. We used frozen because we weren’t about to pay an arm and a leg for fresh berries this time of year. But in the spring and summer fresh is more practical and I am sure even more delicious. We just put a handful of frozen blueberries and a handful of frozen raspberries on a plate and let them thaw for a little while before adding them on top of the cream. It worked great.

These little bites were so fun and easy to make. I can’t wait to find another excuse to make them. I think Valentines is the perfect time to whip them up again. A baby shower would be a good place to serve these too, and they would be so festive looking on the Fourth of July.  Just wait, after you taste them you are going to be looking for any excuse to make them too!

I am going to be pouring through your soup recipes, will be back to share what I find!

Yummy. You could try mascapone cream too. Make it slightly more tangy and a little lighter (not on the calorie front though).
Happy Tuesday

I have a SERIOUS problem! I could not find the puff pastry shells at my grocery store! Where did you find them at? Are they frozen or somewhere else. HELP! :)

I got them at a grocery store called Wegmans in the frozen section. If you can’t find them you could try cutting small circles or squares out of the regular puff pastry sheets and baking them in a mini cupcake or tart pan. It would probably make an awesome dessert to cook the sheets on a cookie sheet and then spread the whole big thing with the filling and top with berries. I hope you can find the little shells somewhere. ….or maybe you will just have to come visit me and I will make them for you. :)

What cute little bites. I can just see these being served for parties or showers, times when you want a dainty little dessert that will wow everyone. I have a linky party on my blog right now called “Sweets for a Saturday” and I’d like to invite you to stop by and link this recipe up.
