The Bullet List {Gabrielle Blair}

by Destri on December 3, 2009

A little over a month ago I decided to be bold and invite “Design Mom” to be on The Bullet List.  All the while thinking if I even received a reply that would be pretty cool.  She not only responded the same day, she said yes.  Happy happy day to say the least.  I feel as though I am introducing the Pope to the Catholic community, but for those of you who have just discovered the internet, I am more than pleased to do the honors.

Gabrielle Blair

Do you have a place on the internet that you visit everyday?  A place that never seems to disappoint, even in the simplest of posts?  Gabrielle’s blog has been that place for me since I found it a year ago.  She has impeccable taste, an obvious eye for simple beautiful design and a breezy writing style that never leaves you feeling weighed down.  Don’t just take my word for it, Design Mom has been dubbed a Top Motherhood Blog by The Wall Street Journal, Huggies has labeled her a Celebrity Mom and I think she may be on a first name basis with Martha.  Yep, she’s that cool.

She is also the founder of the highly addictive site kirtsy, where everything you never knew you needed to know resides in a single spot.  Maybe we’ll make the front page one day…or maybe if we’re really good the next Kirtsy Takes a Bow book.  Hey, a girl can dream.

Aside from all of that I have a feeling that if given the chance to spend a day with her I would find myself most inspired by the kind of mother she is to her five beautiful children.  You read that right, five, and she is expecting her sixth little wonder in a few short months.

Now onto her list…

  • Feeling like there’s all the time in the world till Christmas and that every plan and idea I have is doable.
  • Making lists.
  • Lighting candles.
  • Hanging the stockings.
  • Figuring out what the tree should look like this year.
  • Hiding gifts.
  • Filling up the calendar with holiday plans.
  • Hearing the kids humming Christmas Carols.
  • Watching the weather and hoping for snow on Christmas.
  • Picking out a new book to add to our Christmas collection.
  • Finding baked goods on my doorstep.
  • Hearing the UPS or Fedex truck stop outside my house.
  • Feeling each year that this will probably be the best Christmas ever.

One of my favorite activities in early December is dreaming up all the creative gifts and decorations I think I’ll have time to make. It’s futile really, because there’s just never enough time.

But I get so much enjoyment out of activitation my imagination and dreaming things up that I try to make those moments a gift to myself and not judge myself for not actually being able to accomplish all those things.
